Quick Overview

True North™ Kentucky Coffee Tree is a very large, tough shade tree. Notable for it’s narrow and upright-oval form, strong branching structure, and its lack of fruit and seeds. It has blue-green leaves in summer that turn a lovely soft yellow in fall which plays a nice contrast against its rugged, scaly bark. Tolerant of tough urban conditions including, cold, heat, and drought.

Why it rocks:

True North™ Kentucky Coffee Tree was introduced in 2015 through the University of Minnesota’s Woody Landscape Plant Breeding & Genetics Project. True North’s narrow and upright-oval form, strong branching structure, and lack of fruit and seeds allow it to be versatile in the landscape. This large shade tree has blue-green leaves in summer that turn a lovely soft yellow in fall which plays a nice contrast against its rugged, scaly bark.

True North™ Kentucky Coffee Tree is a very large, tough shade tree. Plant this tree in parkways, front yards, and backyards or any open area of the landscape.

What it needs:

True North™ Kentucky Coffee Tree prefers full sun. It’s very adaptable and does well in a variety of soil types including alkaline. Tolerant of tough urban conditions including, cold, heat, and drought. Be sure to follow our tree care instructions for the first few growing seasons until the root system is well-established.
