Where to put it:
Japanese Maples can be difficult in northern climates; however, many believe that Japanese Maples are a risk worth taking. Bloodgood Japanese Maple is a zone 5 plant; however, it is worth noting that Japanese Maple are not known for their cold hardiness. Keeping this into consideration, Japanese Maples will do best in areas where they are protected from wind. They will do best in urban or suburban settings, in a sheltered location such as near a patio or house. Just make sure you leave enough room, as they do get fairly large at maturity. What it needs:
Other than protection from the more extreme elements, Japanese Maples are fairly tolerant trees. Bloodgood has shown increased hardiness; however, all Japanese Maple trees should be carefully tended to. For tree care instructions please click here.
