Why it rocks:

Cleveland Select Ornamental Pear is an outstanding medium sized ornamental/shade tree for home landscapes. The stunning clusters of white flowers are the first of the season to emerge, and give way to dark green, glossy, heart-shaped leaves which turn to an outstanding deep red in fall. Being one of the last trees to lose its leaves in the fall, Cleveland Select Pear is one of the most impressive ornamental trees available. Compared to Aristocrat Pear, the Cleveland Select Pear has a much more narrow, pyramidal form which has a much more formal look. This tree is identical to the Chanticleer Pear, and a better alternative to Bradford Pear. For this tree’s statistics please click on the Additional Details tab above.

Where to put it:

Because of its size and shape, Cleveland Select Pear is extremely versatile in the landscape. Cleveland Select can be used anywhere from the parkway to the front landscape, and can provide shade as well as accent. This tree should be planted at least 15ft away from buildings. • What type of insect and wildlife, if any, does the Cleveland Pear tree attract? I would like two of them on my parkway. Please let me know and thank you.
    • The Cleveland Pear is an ornamental pear, meaning it does not produce the same type of large pear fruit that we humans eat, however, as it does still produce a small pear-like fruit. This fruit is not ornamentally significant, and is not particularly messy as they typically stay on the tree or are consumed by birds- the abundance of their fruit depends on the weather that season. I have read that the fruit is not particularly appetizing to birds and small animals, however, they do hold their fruit often into the fall and winter- when food is more scarce. That being said, birds mostly, but squirrels possibly as well, will typically be attracted to the fruit and will eat them in the fall and winter months. As far as insects go- this tree does have flowers, and is probably likely to attracting pollinating insects such as bees, etc. They are typically one of the first trees to flower in the spring, and can hold their flowers for a while depending on the weather. They are a beautiful tree in all seasons, flowers in the spring, nice glossy green foliage in the summer, and a red fall color- in addition they are extremely tough, adaptable, and fast growing. Cleveland Pear and all the varieties we carry are much tougher than the old Bradford varieties and have stronger branching. They are a great parkway tree! • Will this tree work along a driveway? or will roots be a problem?
    • Yes, this tree would be great along a driveway. The Cleveland Select Pear is commonly used as a parkway tree, in sidewalk cut outs, and in parking lots because it is fast growing and tough- and the roots should not be an issue.
